The mothering instinct does not belong to humans alone. In this tale of unlikely friendships, a macaque monkey living in India has seemingly adopted an adorable stray puppy. The pair were caught on tape wandering the streets and the monkey kept a protective watch over the dog, going so far as to carry the dog under her arm, according to People.
Community members fell in love with the duo and provided plenty of food to ensure they both stayed healthy.
“People who have seen them spoke of their strong mutual affection and described their bond as the most caring thing in the world- to take care of a puppy in danger and protect him like a parent. Their undying affection gives us a valuable lesson about relationships,” Zee Media Bureau wrote.
The Dodo reports that the puppy and her caretaker may be been separated when the Forest Department took the puppy into custody and the monkey escaped. Translation of the article reporting this part of the story is a little unclear.
