We’ve said this over and over again: Some people do NOT deserve the love of animals. Thankfully, most pets live happily but sometimes, like for the dog in this story, it takes some time to get to that happy life. The path leading to it is paved with sad days. Days that are even filled with torture, empty bellies, and lots of tears.
For one dog owner, anything was more important than her dog Fawna. She adopted Fawna, for what reason, we do not know. Fawna was severely neglected. She wasn’t even fed! And when her owner was asked to move out of state and in with her boyfriend, she did the unthinkable. She took her emaciated dog and put her in a trash can outside then put the lid back on. Fawna was literally left to die.
Three entire days later, a trash collector, named Nathan Binnie, came to empty the bin. Once he took the top off, he was shocked to see not what was inside, but whom. Nathan ran to his truck, grabbed his lunch box, and fed some of his food to Fawna. He then put her in his vehicle and drove her to The Humane Society Of Westmoreland County.
The shelter volunteers checked Fawna for a microchip and the dog, that was near death from starvation and neglect, was registered, still, to her current owner. Or should we say monster? The monster who chose her boyfriend over Fawna! The monster who accepted this innocent dog into her care and didn’t care for her at all!
Fawna’s photos really are heartbreaking. But thankfully, her story doesn’t end there!
The Humane Society took Fawna in and pledged to help the dog who never experienced kindness. Dr. Megan Fritz, the vet on staff, examined Fawna. She was in disbelief when she saw Fawna’s condition. There was no medical reason for Fawna to be so thin. Just simple cruelty.
Fawna nearly doubled her weight under the shelter’s care. She flourished. Not just because she felt good with food in her belly but because she felt devotion and love. Dr. Fritz made sure that Fawna’s health continued to improve and during the process, fell in love with the sweet dog. It was then that Dr. Fritz decided to adopt her! Fawna got her happily ever after, after all!
As for her disgusting original owner– She was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. She paid $600 and had to undergo a psychiatric examination. Do you think this was a fair punishment? Did Fawna truly get justice? Let us know in the comment section. And share Fawna’s story so more dogs like her get forever homes. Remember, shelter dogs are NOT BROKEN! They just have a story to tell.
